Abstract: This papers deals with radio media in Bangladesh in general and the issues relating to broadcasting, education and research centering the medium in particular. Thus this study brings the existing context and reflects on the challenges for radio media in Bangladesh. In-depth interviews will be conducted for primary data, curricula and syllabuses used for radio studies will be collected and analyzed. In addition, a survey review will be made on past and current studies conducted by radio practitioners, scholars and agencies to understand the research focus and scale of radio studies in the country.

It is perceived that radio as a mass media is struggling all over the world and consistently losing its share in the audience market in Bangladesh therefore its sustainability is under multiple threats. Online media platforms are posing challenges and making the medium almost to a level of ‘radiosaur’ close to be extinct. Radio education in Bangladesh is not that much attractive to
the teachers and students at tertiary level. Neither the universities have state of art curricula and syllabuses for offering the course, nor have they equipped human resources for education. So is the case about ‘studio and lab’ facilities. Consequently, radio research also have declined. Once a radio thriving nation now follows acute suffering from radio’s sustainability as mass medium.
On the basis of the challenges, this paper will explore answers to the question: Is the radio gone forever?
